YOUNGSTOWN – Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, at 9:30 a.m. at Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home follwed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church for Raymond A. Walega, 77, who passed away February 3, 2014 at Northside Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer. Ray was born March 11, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of Jacob and Viola Zebracki Walega, and was a lifelong area resident. He attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish School in Youngstown where he served as an altar boy, and was a 1956 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He served as a PFC in the Army National Guard from 1957-1963,assigned to the 177th Gun Battalion at Camp Perry, Ohio. He worked for many years at the General Fireproofing Company in Youngstownand later as a manager at Ames Department Store in Boardman. Ray was a quiet, humble and gentle person who was deeply devoted to his family and his Catholic faith. He was a favorite uncle, a devoted brother and a dutiful son. He lovingly cared for his mother until her death in 1997 at the age of 93, and, until his own death, continued to meticulously tend to the family home that his hardworking parents built in 1941. Ray is survived by his sister-in-law, Phyllis Walega of New Castle; three nieces, Nancy Rosenberg of Struthers, Lynda (Pedro) Garcia of New Castle, and Kimberly (Wade) Doerr of New Middletown; three nephews, Robert Perrett of Struthers, Michael (Betty) Perrett of Struthers, and John David Walega of New Castle; three grandnieces, Sandra Perrett of Struthers, Kiana Garcia of New Castle, and Philippa Doerr of New Middletown; and two grandnephews, Cameron Garcia of New Castle and John Steven Rosenberg of Struthers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John Walega and Eugene Walega, his sister, Theresa Perrett, his brother-in-law, George Perrett, and his sister-in-law, Marjorie Walega. The Walega family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home where they will receive friends, Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery near his beloved parents.
