Obituary

Campbell: Funeral services will be held 9:30am Thursday in the Wasko Funeral Home and 10am in St. John Catholic Church for Raymond M. Balas, 77, who passed away Monday evening. Ray was born Jan. 16, 1934 in Youngstown the son of Edward and Elizabeth Suckenik Balas. He was a 1949 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School; he was previously employed by LTV Steel as a welder and retired from the Mahoning County Engineers Dept. in 2000. Ray loved to garden and was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan. His wife the former Mary Ann Gulu whom he married July 30, 1955 passed away June 25, 1996. He leaves to cherish his memory his children Raymond Jr. (Denise) of Cleveland, Joseph of Campbell, Susan (Anthony) Tulipano of Youngstown and Stephen (Lisa) of Campbell; grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, Raymond, Dillon, Derrick, Jordyn, Stephen and Colin Balas and Stacey Tulipano; great-granddaughter Taylor Leann; sisters, Sister Mary Raymond of Richfield, Mary Kingure of Youngstown and Julie Fabian of Campbell and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters Elizabeth Balas and Catherine Horvath and six brothers, Edward, John, Joseph, Andrew, Frank and Steve. The Balas family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-8pm.
