COLUMBIANA - A Divine Liturgy will be held at St Nicholas Byzantine Church, Campbell, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015, with Father Chris Burke celebrating for Paul Vrabel, 88, who passed away peacefully on March 27, 2015.
Paul was born September 17, 1926 in Campbell, a son of Joseph and Anna Harvilia Vrabel.
He graduated from the Navy Pacific University, served at Pearl Harbor after the attack, and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church.
Paul worked as a supervisor at United States Steel until he retired in 1981 after 35 years of service. He also worked for Gasearch, Inc. as a field boss.
In his youth, Paul was passionate about watching and participating in sports, especially baseball, which he played as a member of the Navy team. Paul also loved being outside working with plants and landscaping. As a resident of Whispering Pines Village, he was happiest when he was able to help the staff in any way possible. His family is deeply grateful to the staff of Whispering Pines for the wonderful care they provided for him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Myron (Kathy) Vrabel of Columbiana and Stephanie (Mike) Wright of Lexington, KY; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey Wright, Brianna (Adam) Britton, and Reimi Vrabel; and a sister, Agnes (Bill) Janosko of Austintown.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kaye, whom he married April 7, 1956, as well as his siblings, Steve, George, Thomas, Edward, Joseph, and Alex Vrabel, Mary Yablonkai, Helen Saxon, and Veronica Vrabel.
The Vrabel family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home where they will receive family and friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. Parastas at the funeral home. Calling hours will be held again from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Church on Thursday. Burial will be in Lake Park Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Grace Hospice for their love and care of Paul in his time of need.
