An hour of calling will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday, October 14, 2016 at St. Stanislaus Church followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM for Paul Tanona, Sr., 101, who passed away peacefully on October 9, 2016.
Paul was born January 19, 1915 in Poland, Europe, a son of the late Jan and Pelagia (Stabrowski) Tanona. He lived through two world wars having served in the Polish Army during World War II. He survived being captured by the Nazis and the Soviets.
He came to the United States in November of 1949 with his wife and two children. He worked as a die setter for the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company until his retirement in 1980 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance 827. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
Paul loved to garden and was a skilled handyman who enjoyed building things and helping others when he was able to.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, Paul Tanona, Jr. and Agatha Graham, his granddaughter, Colleen Graham, 4 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Nehemiah, Allina, and Cierra Rivera, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Leokadia Michalewicz, whom he married June 29, 1946 and who passed away November 25, 2003, and siblings, Helena, Wiktor, Aleksander, and Marcin.
The family has entrusted the care of Paul to the Kubina Yuhasz Wasko Funeral Home where they will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.
