YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, officiated by Father Edward Neroda, for Paul "PJ", "Pat" F. Janis, 93, who passed away on June 13, 2014.
Paul was born in Youngstown on February 25, 1921, a son of Paul F. and Mary A. Markovitz Janis Sr.
He was employed by Republic Steel in the electric weld and shipping departments where he retired after 40 years of service. Pat was a member of the Civil Conservation Corp in Boise, Idaho. He was an avid golfer and was a member and secretary to the Visa Golf League, as well as a member of Rolling Hills Golf Club. Pat was a Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Notre Dame Fan. In his spare time, Pat was an avid gardener and an amazing cook. He also volunteered his time at St. Stanislaus as a pierogi worker. In addition, Pat was an animal lover, especially to dogs and birds.
He leaves to cherish his memories, daughters, Patricia (Michael) Drobik, Marilyn Janis, and Debbie (Joseph) Janis-Verbosky; grandchildren, A. Nicole, Brian (Michelle) and Joey; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Janis; sisters-in-law, Lucy Tascione and Agnes (Harold) Watros.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice whom he married September 27, 1947 and passed away October 28, 2012; a sister, Loretta Engles and a brother, Joseph Janis.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
The Janis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home where they will receive friends, Monday, June 16, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
