Obituary

Lowellville: Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wasko Funeral Home and at 11:00 a.m. at Christ our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Catholic Church for Neva J. Basista, 83, who passed away Saturday evening at the Hospice House. Neva was born January 13, 1929 in Niles, the daughter of Lodivico and Rosa Zuccone Stabile. She was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Later, Neva was employed by A & P Grocery Store in Struthers. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church and the Struthers Northside Club. Neva lived to love and loved to live. Her sweet and loving words made all who know her feel loved, appreciated and lifted. She was also known for her delicious apple squares and wedding soup, but it?¢s the excitement in her voice that will be missed the most. She lived her life as Christ teaches . . . she Loved. Her husband, William Basista, whom she married April 29, 1950, passed way August 24, 1995. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons George (Beth) Basista of Boardman and William (Cheryl) Basista of Mineral Ridge; her grandchildren: George (Rachel) Basista of Youngstown and Kristen Basista of Mineral Ridge; two great grandchildren: Blake and Reid Basista; step-grandchild Michael (Emily) Cuccareese of Boston, Massuchusetts; sister Rose Labate of Mineral Ridge; brother John (Mary) Stabile of Boardman; sister-in-law Mary Stabile of Chicago, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Basista; her sisters Delphine Slanina and Corsina Liberator; her brothers Leroy Stabile, Joseph Stabile, and Salvatore (Sam) Stabile; and special friend Robert Koren. Neva was the most loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a fantastic cook, known especially for her famous apple squares. The Basista family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Tuesday from 5-8:00 p.m. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice Nurse Joann and the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the loving care they gave to their mother. Should friends desire, monetary donations may be made in Neva?¢s name to Hospice of the Valley.
