Rev. Monsignor Cyril A. Adamko, 92
Villa Maria, Pa………….. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 20 at St. Matthias Church, 915 Cornell Street, for Rev. Monsignor Cyril A. Adamko, who passed away on Monday, February 17. He was 92 years old.
Monsignor Adamko was born on August 17, 1921 in Youngstown. He graduated from Ursuline High School before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He studied for the priesthood at St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland.
Monsignor Adamko was ordained on February 28, 1953 in the old St. Columba Cathedral by the Most Reverend Emmet Walsh.
Following ordination, he served as parochial vicar of St. Matthias, Youngstown (1953-1964), and diocesan director of Catholic Charities (1964-1967) before becoming pastor of St. Elizabeth in Campbell in 1967 until his retirement in 1991. He was named a Prelate of Honor in 1997 with the title Monsignor.
In addition, he served as Dean of Mahoning County South, he was a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council and the Senate of Priests; secretary of the Council of Conciliation, member of the Clergy Conference Committee, the Diocesan Retirement Board, Family Life Committee and the Diocesan Planning Committee; moderator of the Assumption Nursing Home Guild; and was active in the Continuing Education o f Priests.
He is survived by nieces, JoAnn Blaski, Carole (John) Catheline, Stephanie (Sam) Costello, Maryann (David) Nestor, Jackie Jo Maresh and Betty Cmil; a nephew, Cyril (Rose) Cmil; and dear friends, Jerry (Maryann) Jurcisin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Krankota Adamko; brothers, Steve, Frank and Aloysius; sisters, Josephine Brown, Mary Cmil and Regina Adamko; and a nephew Raymond Cmil.
A special "Thanks" is extended to the Sisters and staff of the Villa Maria Infirmary for their loving and compassionate care of Monsignor.
Calling hours are on Wednesday, February 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Matthias Church where a prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. and again on Thursday morning, February 20th from 9:30 to 10:15am at the church.
Monsignors family has entrusted the arrangements of their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.
