CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. Steve Denas and Fr. Alex Goussetis officiating, for Michael P. Nicolaou, 85, who passed away early Friday morning with his family by his side.
Michael was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Nicosia, Cypress, the son of Pete and Maria Stavrinou Nicolaou. He came to Campbell in 1953.
He retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, Open Hearth Division with over 30 years of service.
Michael was a member of the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, where he served as a Councilman for over 52 years and was an altar server for over 20 years.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed listening to religious music. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Michael leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, the former Ero M. Mallotidou, whom he married Aug. 24, 1952; his sons, Marios Nicolaou of Campbell and Pete (Dorothy) Nicolaou of Lowellville; a daughter, Kathy Nicolaou of Columbus; four grandchildren, Michael Nicolaou of Lowellville, Sarah (Jenn) Nicolaou of Columbus, Nicole (James) Jablonski of Poland and Jaimie (Charles) Gasior of Akron; five great-grandchildren, James, Charles, Audrina, Lucas and Delaney.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers monetary donations may be made in Michael's name to The Nativity of the Theotokos, 121 St. Elias Lane, Saxonburg, PA 16056.
The Nicolaou family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Tuesday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church, prior to the funeral service.
