Michael "Mike" Berardino, 83
CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wasko Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy Catholic Church for, Michael "Mike" Berardino, 83, who passed away peacefully in the presence of his beloved family and in the comfort of his home, on Tuesday, March 10.
Mike was born July 26, 1931, in Castelbottaccio, Campobasso Italy, the son of Luigi and Maria Tomasso Mastroberardino, and moved to Campbell in 1946.
He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1950, and also attended Youngstown College.
He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, where he was an Aidman as part of the Medical Detachment, and earned the rank of Staff Sargent and received an honorable discharge.
He worked 32 years at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. and LTV Steel at the Campbell Works Coke Plant as a foreman. He also was an insurance agent for the Steinhauser Insurance Agency from 1972 to 1998.
Mike was a member of the Amerital Club. In keeping touch with his Italian heritage, he was the recording secretary for the Bugnarese Society for 32 years, and a member of the Castle "B" Club. He was an active participant of St. Lucy Church, serving as an usher, and a member of the Men's Society. He additionally helped with numerous church fund raisers. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 560 in Campbell.
Mike enjoyed bowling, and played in the Youngstown Morre League. He played bocce at St. Lucy Church, attended to his backyard garden, and made wine to share with his family and friends.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Liana DiVito Berardino; his sons, Robert Berardino of Cuyahoga Falls and Dr. Anthony Berardino of Madison; and his sister-in-law, Lisa Mastroberardino of Struthers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Mastroberardino, who passed away Nov. 30, 1994.
Mike's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the loving and thoughtful service of his primary caregivers, Vicky and Esperanza Martinez, and also Pamela Gibbs, all of Youngstown.
The Berardino family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., where there will be a prayer service at 5:45 p.m.
