Obituary

Campbell: Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael?¢s Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell for Michael Bakos, 86 who passed away Wednesday at the Hospice House. Mike was born October 1, 1925 in Campbell, the son of George and Katherine Shirilla Bakos. He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1943 and immediately joined the US Navy, where he served as a cook aboard the USS-LST-701 in the Phillipines. Mike was employed by the Republic Steel Corporation (LTV Steel) and retired in 1985. He also owned and operated Bakos Rug and Furniture Cleaning Company for many years. Mike was a lifelong member of St. Michael?¢s Byzantine Catholic Church, where he faithfully served as a janitor for over 25 years. He also served as a bingo worker and bartender at the Church for many years. He was a member of St. Michael?¢s Civic Club, its?¢ Men?¢s Senior Club and the Greek Catholic Union. Mike loved music and he loved to dance, especially to his favorite song, ââ?¬Å?Spanish Eyes쳌. He also had a green thumb when it came to gardening. He was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians, and he was a frequent visitor to the area casinos. Mike is survived by the love of his life, Catherine Raseta, whom he married in 1949. He is also survived by two sons, Robert (Stella) Bakos of Campbell and Michael (Brenda) Bakos of Columbus; three grandchildren, Robert of Boardman, Matthew of St. Petersburg, Fl, and Stacey (Scott) Frasier of Columbus; one great granddaughter, Abigail of Columbus, one sister, Margaret (Charles) Korchnak of Poland and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George ââ?¬Å?Red쳌 Vrabel; and three sisters, Mary Shirilla, Ann ââ?¬Å?Billie쳌 Bodnar and Catherine ââ?¬Å?Katsko쳌 Greenfield. Mike?¢s family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of the Valley and the Hospice House, and an extra special thanks to Dr. T. Singh. The Bakos family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will received friends Sunday from 4-7:00 p.m.
