An hour of calling will take place from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows at St. Matthias Church followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2016 for Mary Minear, 94, who passed away August 10, 2016.

Mary was born December 5, 1921 in Teplicka, Slovakia, a daughter of John and Catherine Olenik Kovach, coming here in 1929. She was a member of St. Matthias Church, its Altar and Rosary Society, Infant of Prague Guild, Golden Echoes and Slovak Catholic Sokol Wreath 54, an honorary member in which she served as auditor for over 20 years.

Mary was employed at City Provision grocery store for many years, retiring in 1985. Her husband Bernard, whom she married in 1946, died in 1958.

She leaves her loving family, one son, Frederick of Strongsville, Ohio, two daughters Norma (Richard) Wise of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Marilyn (David) Rakes of Litchfield, Ohio; grandchildren Stephanie (Bruce) Mitchell, Dan George, Heather Minear, and Zachary (Amy) Minear; 7 great-grandchildren; her sisters Cecelia Ferenchak of Boardman, Josephine Salata of New Middletown and Agnes Kovach of Youngstown; and her brothers Frank (Ann) Kovach of Liberty and Cyril (Mary) Kovach of Struthers.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, John, George, and Joseph Kovach and sisters Catherine Yanek and Regina Kovach.

The family has entrusted the care of Mary to the Kubina Yuhasz Wasko Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
