Mary Jane Makosky, 88
Manassas, VA - Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for Mary Jane Makosky, 88, formerly of Youngstown, OH, who passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family, in the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law (Bernadette and Joe Maluso) for the past eleven years.
Mary was born August 8, 1927, in Campbell, OH, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Tuchek Vodhanel.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for many years, and was very involved with parish activities, including "Christ Renews His Parish" and Cursillo. Mary was deeply devoted to the Lord and had a special devotion to the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. She was"The Canasta Queen", and also an avid Bingo player…she would play her multiple cards while also looking out for anyone around her who needed help keeping up! She loved watching baseball…especially the Cleveland Indians. Mary collected beautiful Barbie Dolls and also loved her countless Beanie Babies!
In earlier years, Mary enjoyed working at Strouss' Grill in Downtown Youngstown, holding those memories close to her heart. She also worked in a few other area restaurants. However, Mary's legacy and purpose, was the love she had for her husband, family and all those she came in contact with, especially the special visits she enjoyed with her family. Mary was always thinking of little ways to help each person, and prayed daily for all of them. Many will miss her smiling, beautiful blue eyes!
Mary is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her children, Patti Ruble, Veronica (Jim) Foster, Bernadette (Joe) Maluso, Elisabeth Skorich, and her stepdaughter, Kathy Pritchard; her grandchildren, Joseph William (Melissa), Mike (Nicole), Matthew (Beth Ann), Joey (Star), Robert William, Ariana, Nicholas and Michael; and a sister, Anna Marie Foster.
William Andrew Makosky, Mary's husband of almost fifty years, passed away on April 27, 2003. She missed him each and every day since.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Cyril, Joseph, and Frank, and a sister, Lillian.
The Makosky family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday from 11:30-12:30 p.m. at the Church. The rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m.
