Youngstown…Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church for Mary L. Garcar, who passed away Friday morning. Mary was born March 20, 1911, in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Mary Fillips Simkovic. While Mary was born in Youngstown, she moved to Slovakia as an infant, then came back to the area in 1925 at the age of 14, settling in Campbell. Mary was a homemaker and also worked for years as a housekeeper and seamstress. She was a member of the former St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell, its' Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, Rosary Society, and Bible Study Group. Mary was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Group, the Men's Jednota #260, and the Zenska Jednota Branch # 202. Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Stephen J. (Carol) Garchar of Livonia, Michigan and Thomas K. Garchar of Campbell; her daughter, Ruth Garchar of Youngstown; grandchildren Stephen (Lori) Garchar, Christopher Garchar and Susan (Leonard) Minor all of Michigan; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan and Jack Garchar. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve, whom she married September 21, 1937, and who passed away August 28, 2003; and her sister, Caroline Kollar. Should friend desire, monetary donations may be made in Mary's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514. The Garcar family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Church, prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
