Lucille A.
Kramer
May 2, 1925 — Aug 1, 2015
YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish at St. Matthias Church will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 with Fr. Martin Celuch celebrating for Lucille A. Kramer, 90, who passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015. Lucille was born May 2, 1925 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Mary Janci Martinko. She married Bernard Kramer on January 24, 1948 and together they enjoyed nearly 55 years of marriage. After high school, Lucille proudly became one of the "Rosie the Riveters" during World War II, and after the war went to work as a seamstress for Flemings. For the last 60 years, she worked out of her home specializing in custom draperies. She was the beloved matriarch of her family, a "Can-Do Gal" who would selflessly give to others, always before herself. Up until recently, she would do everything from gardening, baking, cooking, cleaning, and canning, among many of her talents, and rarely could be found sitting still. Lucille was very active in St. Matthias Parish, where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. She was very proud of her Slovak heritage and could speak the language fluently. She belonged to the American Slovak Cultural Association, where in 2002 she was named Person of the Year for being a krajĉirka (seamstress) kucharka (chef) pekarka (baker) and pani ĉistota (Mrs. Clean). She will be dearly missed by her beloved children, Glenn Kramer of Youngstown and Kenneth (Valerie) Kramer of Charlotte, NC; her grandchildren, Michael Kramer, Kristin (fiancé Michael Oswald) Kramer, and Alan (Laura) Tio; her great grandchildren, Aidan, Charlotte, and Lukas; her siblings, John Martinko, Thomas (Georgieann) Martinko, and Betty Thomas, all of Youngstown; her sister-in-law, Agnes Martinko of Maryland, brother-in-law, John (Margaret) Kramer of Youngstown, "adopted sister" Bette Dzuroff, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins by the dozen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard, who passed away January 10, 2002 and her brothers, Leonard and Donald Martinko. The family has entrusted the care of Lucille to the Kubina Yuhasz Wasko Funeral Home where they will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will take place at Lake Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to St. Matthias Church in her honor.
