John R. Makosky, 78
Campbell… Mr. John R. Makosky, 78, went home to the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 11 surrounded by his loving family. John was born on May 10, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio to Joseph and Theresa (Sedlack) Makosky. He graduated from North High School in 1956. John married his high school sweetheart Rose Marie Frazzini on Aug. 23, 1958. He is survived by his six children whom he provided with a Catholic education and instilled in them a desire to pursue their goals. Victoria (Vince) Pavis, Joseph (Judy) Makosky, Roseann (Simon) Graj, Christine (Brian) McCue, Julie Britt, John (Amy) Makosky, 27 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a brother Andrew (Angela) Makosky; brothers-in-law Syl (Ginny) Frazzini and Roland Miller; and sisters-in-law Debbie (Jerry) Novosel, Marian Frazzini and Dorothy Makosky. He leaves many nieces, nephews and great- nieces and nephews too many to count. He was a machinist at Falcon Foundry and a supervisor for Vic & Syl Burger Chef/Hardee's. Being an entrepreneur at heart, he owned several of his own businesses. As a devout Catholic, John was active throughout his life at Sacred Heart, St. William, St. Lucy's and Christ the Good Shepherd, serving as a Lay Leader of Prayer, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and a Caregiver bringing Eucharist to the sick and homebound, along with being on numerous committees. At St. Lucy's he was also an officer of the Men's Society. While at St. William he was also a member of the Parish Council, Christ Renews His Parish, and Bingo. He and his wife Rose were co-chairs of the festival food committee and established the St. William Catering Service and Lenten Fish Dinners. A member of Knights of Columbus Council 13466, John was passionately involved in the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years. He was a charter member of the John K. Mahaney Council 7491 where he held many offices including Grand Knight. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of St. Pius V Assembly 3116. John believed in giving back to his community and in 2004 was a Tribune Chronicle Community Star Recipient. He was involved in Boy Scouts of America and Big Brothers/Big Sisters; with the Rotary Exchange Program, he sponsored an exchange student from Mexico, Ignacio del Rincon who quickly became a member of the family. He was a life member of the East Suburban Youngstown Optimist Club where he held many offices leading to Optimist International Governor of Ohio. John enjoyed life! He began each day sitting on his front porch feeding the birds and waving to the neighbors passing by before attending morning Mass and joining his buddies for coffee. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing bingo, going to casinos, playing cards, especially with his brother Andy, and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed spreading cheer playing Jonathan Kringle, Kris Kringle's younger brother. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Rose Marie (Frazzini); along with sons–in–law Dennis J. Dota Sr. and Kenneth "Skinny" Britt; sisters, Helenka Makosky, Theresa Miller, Ann Hvisdak; brothers George, Edward, Joseph, William, Steven; brothers-in-law Andrew Hvisdak, Henry Frazzini; sisters-in-law Mary Makosky and Sara "Dolly" Makosky. Friends and family may pay their final respects at Wasko Funeral Home, 216 Coitsville Rd, Campbell, Ohio 44405 on Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with Rosary being led at 7:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus. On Thursday, Feb. 16 calling hours from 9:00-9:30 a.m. will be held at Christ the Good Shepherd - St. Joseph the Provider Site - 633 Porter Avenue, Campbell, Ohio 44405 prior to the 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Shawn Conoboy presiding. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. William Sharing the Light Campaign, 5411 Mahoning Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44483.
