Obituary

Maria Alevizakis, 62

Campbell……..Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday morning at St. John Orthodox Church for Maria Alevizakis, age 62, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016, surrounded by her loving husband and children.

Maria was a resident of Campbell, Ohio for thirty-two years.

Born December 3, 1954, in Faneromeni Heraklion, Crete, Greece, Maria was the youngest child and only daughter of Iraklis and Argiro Savakis.

Maria married Minas Alevizakis on April 28, 1976.  They had three children together, Emmanuel, Olga, and Iraklis.  In 1984, Maria and her family immigrated to Campbell, Ohio from Crete, Greece where they became active members of Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church.

As the matriarch of her family, she was passionate about instilling the importance of the Greek language, the Greek culture, and Orthodox religion within her children. Together the family created memories through traditional holidays, church, and community involvement.

Maria was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family above all else.  She was an incredible story-teller and enjoyed spending her time gardening and taking care of her home.  She loved cooking and baking, especially her Greek pastries.

Maria always looked forward to her trip to Crete with her husband every year, where they spent their time together remodeling their home and taking care of their properties.  Most importantly, Maria loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She instilled these beautiful values to her children who continue the same values in their children.  Maria will forever be a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

Maria is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Minas; her children, Manuel and his wife Nicci, Olga and her husband John, and Iraklis and his wife Soula; and her five grandchildren, Niko, Maria, Minas, Kyriaki and Marianna.

The family has entrusted the care of Maria Alevizakis to the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 5 to 7pm at the funeral home and again Wednesday morning, January 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church prior to the funeral service.
