Helen Mary Blasko, 93
NORTH LIMA - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. Luke Catholic Church, with Fr. Joseph Blasko, Fr. Joseph Fata and Fr. Gabe Yablonovsky officiating, for Helen Mary Blasko, 93, formerly of Boardman, who passed away Saturday afternoon at the Assumption Village Nursing Home, with her family at her side.
Helen was born April 17, 1921, in Youngstown, the daughter of Martin and Mary Helt Yablonovsky.
Helen was a former member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. She joined St. Luke Parish and enjoyed attending daily Mass. She was also a member of the K of C Father Gallagher Council.
Helen loved spending time with her family, baking her famous clothes pin cookies, knitting, playing cards and winning at Scrabble.
She worked for the Youngstown City Schools in the cafeteria as a baker before retiring in 1981.
Her husband, Joseph Blasko, whom she married on Aug. 21, 1940, passed away Dec. 29, 1995.
Helen was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and her faith and family always came first.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Fr. Joseph Blasko of Michigan, Paul (Renee) Blasko of New Jersey, Marty (Eleanor) Blasko of Vandalia, Lawrence (Norine) Blasko of Boardman, Dolores Kountz of Poland, and David (Stephanie) Blasko of Florida; son-in-law Pete Pirone of Struthers; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fr. Gabe Yablonovsky of North Lima; sister Jude Yablonsky of Hawaii; sister-in-law Sophie Yablonsky of Parma; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; a daughter, MaryAnn Pirone; son-in-law John Kountz; brothers Fr. Cyril Jablonsky, Paul, Joseph, Martin and Frank; and sisters Theresa Kraynack, Mary and Ann Yablonovsky.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Special Care Unit at Assumption Village for their kindness and compassion shown to Helen and to Hospice of the Valley.
The Blasko family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive family and friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Cursillo Bible Vigil at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also call on Thursday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church.
