POLAND – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish at St. Matthias Church, officiated by Father Martin Celuch for Dorothy M. Babnic, 72 who went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2014.
Dorothy was born June 30, 1942 in Brody, Poland, Europe, a daughter of Basil and Eugenia Bogdon Udycz. Her father was killed in WWII, and she was raised by her mother and her step-father Raymond Jozwiak.
Dorothy graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1961, where she earned a scholarship for a nursing degree. She applied this scholarship towards the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing, where she earned her nursing degree. She was employed as a Registered Nurse by Woodside Hospital, and would retire from Beeghly Oaks in 2003.
She was a very devoted Catholic and was very involved at St. Matthias Church. She was a member of Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, the Sacred Heart and Rosary Society, and the Quilters of Our Lady of Sorrows. Dorothy was wonderful at crafts – needlework, crocheting, flower arranging, sewing, as well as baking. She most loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Eugenia Jozwiak; her husband Robert A. Babnic, whom she married December 23, 1963; a son, Robert (Cyndi) Babnic of Poland; grandchildren, Becca and Jason Babnic; sister Josephine (George) Jarbeck of Boardman; nieces and nephews Allison (Dan) Sebaugh, Stephanie Jarbeck, and George Richard Jarbeck, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Basil Udycz and her step-father Raymond Jozwiak.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the 4West Wing at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boardman and the Hospice House for their compassionate care of Dorothy.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
The Babnic family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home where they will receive friends, Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 3:45 p.m. prayer service lead by Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. Calling hours will also be held 1 hour prior to the funeral service on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthias Church.
