Larry Matzye, 77

Struthers…Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, with Monsignor John Zuraw officiating for Larry Matzye, 77, who passed away Thursday morning.

Larry was born August 26, 1938, in Campbell, the son of John and Bertha Stofa Matzye.  He was a lifelong area resident.

Larry graduated in 1956 from Campbell Memorial High School and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Counseling from Youngstown State University.

He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1963.

Larry was a retired teacher and guidance counselor.  He taught at Princeton, Chaney and Rayen Schools, and was a guidance counselor for 20 years at Cardinal Mooney High School.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all aspects of fishing.  Larry taught many people the art of fishing.

Besides his wife, the former Betty Kish, whom he married August 25, 1962, he will be sadly missed by his children and grandchildren, Michele (Bob) Zackasee, Christine Diamandis, Larry (Lynne) Matzye and Carolyn Matzye; and his five grandchildren, Matthew and Jordan Zackasee, Tad Duran, Nina Matzye and Angeleah Matzye.

Besides his parents; he was preceded in death by six brothers, John "Jay", Steve, Michael, George, Albert and Robert Matzye; and two sisters, Irene Sinchak and Helen Martin.

The Matzye family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Saturday from 12-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
