New Middletown…Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church with Fr. David Shortt officiating, for Julia Yaroscak, 89, who passed away Monday morning. Julia was born August 13, 1923, in Youngstown, the daughter of Charles and Mary Lippa Didek. She was a 1941 graduate of East High School and was a lifelong area resident. As a young adult and prior to getting married, she worked at Strouss' Department Store in downtown Youngtown and Republic Steel Corporation. Julia was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church. She was well known for making traditional Slovak food, especially her cheese cake and kolachi, and she took great pride in passing down those traditions to her daughters. Julia was also very proud to be able to help and care for her younger sister, Margaret. She leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters, Betty (Victor) Boerio of Boardman and Julie (Jerry) Maruskin of Canfield; five grandchildren, Bill (Amy) Croake of Boardman, Amy (Troy Brabant) Gorby of Poland, Allison (Marc Farrant) Boerio of Boardman, and Jared and Nicholas Maruskin of San Jose, CA; and five great-grandchildren, Madison, William, Tori, Lyla and Gianna. Her husband, George F. "Judge" Yaroscak, whom she first met at a dance at the Idora Park Ballroom, and then married on May 10, 1947, passed away August 11, 1977. Julia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Victor Boerio; six sisters, Helen, Mary, Anna, Elizabeth, Susan and Margaret; and two brothers, John and Peter. The Yaroscak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Thursday from 5-7:00 p.m.
