Campbell…Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio, Jr. officiating, for Joseph G. "Red" Mazzocca, Sr., 82, who passed away early Monday morning.

Joseph Gene Mazzocca Sr. was born May 2, 1933 in Bugnara, Italy, the son of Franceso and Nunziata (Iduciani) Mazzocca.  He came to the United States in 1949 when he was 16 years old.

On June 13, 1959, Joseph married Mary Ricci and had four children:  Frank (Jackie) Mazzocca, Nancy (Bill) Dellick, Lucille Vukovich and Joseph (Teresa) Mazzocca Jr.  Joseph also leaves three grandchildren, Danielle Mazzocca, Gabriella Dellick and Erin Vukovich; and one great-grandchild, David "Cheech" Pickerel.

In 1950, Joseph was employed at Cold Metal Products in Campbell until his retirement in 1991.  He served in the Army during the Korean War.  Later, he enjoyed working as a school bus driver for Campbell City Schools.  Joseph served his community as a member of Campbell City Council from December 10, 1995 to May 31, 2010.

In 1981, Joseph started a radio broadcasting career at WKTL, 90.7 FM.  He assumed the responsibility of "The Italian Hour", as there was no one to continue the broadcast.  Even until his death, Joseph still volunteered his time on his weekly show called Musica d'Italia from 3-4:00 p.m. every Saturday with his son, Joseph Jr.

Joseph also did charitable work and volunteered his time to different organizations.  He was the treasurer during the inaugural season of the Campbell Little Red Devils football league.  He was also nominated and held vice-president and president positions for the St. Lucy's Men's Society and performed other volunteer work for the church.  Joseph served as Past Commander of American Legion Post 560 and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knight of Columbus.  In 1981, he collected donations and personally delivered them for earthquake victims of Italy.

Joseph also enjoyed attending all of the Italian festivals and keeping up on current artists and music for his weekly radio broadcast on WKTL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Nick and Lou Mazzocca.

The Mazzocca family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Thursday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
