Joseph J. Matvey, 80 CAMPBELL - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Swierz officiating, for Joseph J. Matvey, 80, who passed away Sunday. Joseph was born July 20, 1936, in Campbell, the son of Joseph J. and Anna Tressa Matvey. He was a 1954 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. Joseph went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958. He was extremely proud of his submarine duties and was honored to serve his country. He retired as a manufacturing manager, after working for various companies throughout his career. Joseph was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church. Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, the former Mary Ann Maruschak, whom he married July 18, 1959, in Yonkers, N.Y.; his daughter, Kathleen of Campbell; his son, Joseph (Theresa) of West Chester; his daughter-in-law, Renee Matvey of Powel; his grandchildren, Joshua, April, Whitney, Samuel, Dallas, Samantha and Ashley; and several nieces and nephews, including Missy Williams, who was known as his casino gambling partner. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark S.; a sister, Mary Ann Gaia; and a daughter-in-law, LeAnn Matvey. The Matvey family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the 11 a.m. funeral Mass.
