Joseph Anthony Carano, 95 POLAND - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Swierz officiating, for Joseph Anthony Carano, 95, who passed away Saturday morning. Joseph was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Campbell, the son of Vincenzio and Nerina Stizza Carano. He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, attended college at Ohio University and was drafted into the Navy, where he served from 1944 to 1946, and then moved to Boran, Calif. He worked as a lab technician for Boraxo Corporation, retiring after 35 years of service. Joseph was a member of the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy's Catholic Church. He was an All-State football player in High School and later was inducted into the Campbell Memorial Football Hall of Fame. Joseph loved tennis and played until he was 82 years old. He very much enjoyed having lunch every Thursday with his "tennis buddies." Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, his sister, Hilda Carano of Poland; his nephew and great-nephew, Alan Mele and Chris Dotson, both of North Carolina; cousin Robert Carano of Campbell; and his cousins and caretakers, Mary Eleanor and Stephen Pennline of Austintown. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Anita Mele; his niece, Maria Dotson; and his brother-in-law, Phil Mele. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Sunrise of Poland and Crossroad Hospice for the excellent care they provided. The Carano family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the 1 p.m. service at the funeral home.
