A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish at St. Matthias Church, celebrated by Rev. John Jerek, concelebrated by Rev. Msgr. Peter M. Polando, for John E. Kavulic, 80, who passed away in Florida on March 29, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born December 25, 1936 in Youngstown, a son of John and Mary (Biroschak) Kavulic.
He graduated in 1955 from Wilson High School and upon graduation enlisted in the United
States Air Force. Afterward he worked at Republic Steel until being hired by Youngstown Police Department where he served 32 years. He worked on patrol for 16 years and then was in charge of the record and evidence rooms. After retiring in 1996, John worked as a U.S. Deputy Marshall. John married his wife, Grace (Yavorsky) on April 25, 1998. Together they shared their love of golf and dancing. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthias Church. John enjoyed his family, as well as, golf, baseball, bowling, hunting, and fishing. He could often be found outside gardening or doing yardwork. John loved to cook, especially making cheesecake or his special garlic stuffed bacon. He was a member of Jednota Branch 731 and served as Branch Auditor, Sokol's, FOP lodge #28 and Eagles Aerie 3298.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife Grace, children Kim Marshall, Denise
Yavorsky and James (Tammy) Yavorsky; grandchildren Ryan Yavorsky, Abbigail Yavorsky and
Michael Thornton and seven other grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his sister Rose (John) Klarich; his nieces Lori MacGregor, Caroline Herb, Michele Zitko, Kristin Elbatouty and a nephew Mark Klarich.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Philip Kavulic.
John's family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice, the staff at the Infusion Center on Belmont Ave, and Dr. Jawad Francis for their care of John during his time of need.
The Kavulic family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Joanne's House at Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs, FL, 34135 in John's name.
The family has entrusted John's care to the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home, 5925 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512, where the family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday evening and again Saturday morning from 9:00am-10:00am at the church prior to mass. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
