YOUNGSTOWN – A Prayer Service will be held at 9:15 a.m. at the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish at St. Matthias Church, officiated by Father Martin Celuch for JoAnne L. Blaski, 80, who went to be with the Lord on June 3, 2014. JoAnne was born June 26, 1933 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Stephen and Annabelle McCarty Adams. She graduated from Ursuline High School in 1951 and went on to attend St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1954. JoAnne then went on to receive a certificate in Public Health Nursing from Case Western Reserve University. She spent most of her career working for Youngstown Visiting Nurses Association, where she spent 36 years until her retirement in 1995. JoAnne truly loved her patients and cared for them as if they were part of her own family. After JoAnne's retirement, not only did she become very active in her community, but she was a very devoted Catholic and was very involved at St. Matthias Church. She was a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, Bible Study, and the Bereavement Committee. JoAnne was also an active member of the Youngstown Council of Catholic Nurses, Seton III, St. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Alumni, Birthright, and was a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was also a longtime member of Sharpiettes Girls Club. JoAnne took great pride in taking care of others. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. JoAnne loved spending time at Lake Erie in Geneva and visiting New York City. She especially enjoyed attending her Ursuline Class of 1951 reunions. JoAnne was also a great supporter of the local theater and the arts. She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Thomas Blaski of Youngstown; and daughter, Stephanie (Tim) Seikel of Warren; her sisters, Carole (John) Catheline and Stephanie (Sam) Costello all of Youngstown; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends; and her canine companion, Lucky and her 2 cats, Muffin and Shadow. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, whom she married, April 19, 1958 and passed away October 19, 2003 and a daughter, Mary Anne Blaski. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in JoAnne's name to the Pregnancy Help Center, 4845 Market Street, #2, Boardman, OH 44512. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
