Obituary

Reno, Nevada: Funeral mass and services will be held at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church on Saturday, January 28, 2012 for James (Jim) Steven Bayus, 67, who passed away on January 16, 2012 after a brief illness. Family was by his bedside as he left to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was loved very much by his family and all those who knew him. The youngest of eight sons of John and Edna (Hromyak) Bayus, Jim was born August 14, 1944 in Campbell, Ohio, and resided in Reno, Nevada during the last years of his life. A graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and an Army National Guard Veteran, Jim began his professional career in auto sales in 1970 at State Chevrolet in Youngstown, Ohio. Jim?¢s penchant for horses, cars, deal-making, and risk-taking drew him out west. During his years out west, Jim?¢s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for horseracing were made manifest by his ownership of numerous race horses. While living in Tucson, Arizona, he worked as a sales manager of Matthews Chevrolet. He also ventured out with some good friends for a time as a restaurateur during his time in Tucson. It was in Reno, however, that Jim lived the last 22 years of his life. Working as a manager for Champion Chevrolet, he was a ââ?¬Å?favorite쳌 of many customers; Jim also took great pride in mentoring up-and-coming car salesmen. Known as ââ?¬Å?JB쳌 to many, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, particularly in the enjoyment of Ohio State Buckeyes football and Nascar racing. Jim is survived by his only child, his ââ?¬Å?little girl,쳌 Lisa Christen Gajary and her husband Istvan of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his two brothers: Raymond of Florida and Edward of Canfield, Ohio, as well as several of his beloved sisters-in-law. Jim took particular joy in his nieces, nephews, and their children?쳌all of whom adored their ââ?¬Å?Uncle Jimmy쳌 as well. He also leaves behind many good and trusted friends that span Nevada, Arizona, and Ohio. These individuals include, but are in no way are limited to, Jack and Betty Stanko, Jay Goodman, Miguel Torres Jr., and all of the staff of Champion Chevrolet (all Reno), Jeff Kotchka (Arizona), the Peppermill Casino staff and friends (Reno), as well as several very important, long-standing friends in Youngstown. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and five of his brothers: Andrew, John, Joseph, Paul, and Thomas. Jim was a supporter of the grassroots cancer-research charity, Pelotonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward the support of Pelotonia in his name: (www.mypelotonia.org/donate_cart.jsp?MemberID=5436, or go to www.pelotonia.org) The Bayus family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
