IRENE R. KOVALCHICK, 87
North Lima…A Panachida service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, officiated by Father Kevin Marks, for Irene R. Kovalchick, 87, who passed away Sunday at the Assumption Village Nursing Home after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Irene was born on May 2, 1927, in Campbell, the daughter of Michael and Susanna Horgos Rozum.
She resided in Poland before moving to North Lima over five years ago.
Irene was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and its Ladies Golden Circle.
She was a fulltime homemaker and enjoyed baking. Irene was a long time volunteer as a pirohy maker and bingo worker. She especially enjoyed polka music.
Irene leaves to cherish her memories her six children, Marcia (George) Benko, Andrea (William) Burkhart, Alice (John) Watkins, Susie Thayer, Brian (Dawn Lynn) Kovalchick, and Michael (Kimberly) Kovalchick; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her brothers, John Rozum of Campbell and Andrew Rozum of Euclid; and her sister, Betty (Gene) Delisio of Poland.
Her husband, Andrew Kovalchick, whom she married May 14, 1950, passed away on October 23, 1994.
Besides her husband, Andrew, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Katie Burkhart and Daniel Watkins; and her four siblings, Ann, Mary, Helen and Michael.
Irene's family would like to thank the staff at Assumption Village Nursing Home for their loving care and kindness shown to Irene.
The Kovalchick family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Tuesday from 5-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Parastas prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m.
