Hipolito Gonzalez Sr., 69 Campbell…Funeral services will be held Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home for Hipolito Gonzalez Sr., 69, who passed away early Thursday morning in his home. Hipolito was born July 30, 1945 in Humacao, Puerto Rico and was raised by the late Fernando and Carmen Serrano Burgos. He moved to Campbell in 1952 and graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1966. He served proudly in the National Guard for seven years, first as a radio operator, then as a military policeman. He retired from East Ohio Gas in 1998, where he was a customer service representative. He married Rosa Casillas on May 5, 1967. Lovingly known as "Hips" or "Papu", he liked to listen to the oldies, and loved socializing with his many friends. In his younger years he was a brown belt in karate and an avid pool player who won several championships in Campbell. Most importantly, "Hips" loved his family especially his grandchildren and he had a special nickname for almost all of them. Besides his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory a brother, Concepcion Gonzalez, a sister, Theodocia Gonzalez, both of New York; three children, Hipolito Jr. (Dianne)Gonzalez of Campbell, Marcos H. (Renee) Gonzalez of Edinburg, PA., and Christina Michelle (Rod) Gonzalez of Warren; eleven grandchildren, and a much anticipated great-grandson, due in November, and many other beloved family members. "Hips" was a kind hearted, loving man who was well liked in the community and was always there for someone in need. The Gonzalez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Tuesday from 4-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, where a funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
