Obituary

BOARDMAN – Gerhard "Gary" Lange, 75, passed away at his Boardman home on Saturday, August 15, 2015 after a long, debilitating illness. The first child of Adolf and Marta (Job) Lange, Gerhard was born July 13, 1940 in Lodz, Poland (Germany at the time). He arrived in Youngstown with his immigrant family in 1952. A 1959 graduate of South High School, Gary served honorably in the U.S. Army in the mid-1960's. Always the self-designated professional driver, his longest such employment was with the circulation department of the Youngstown Vindicator. He was a former member of Evangel Baptist Church in Boardman and remained a devout, very studious Christian throughout his life. In his better years, Gary was quite the tennis player. Even later, he still honed his skills as a ruthless Scrabble player. And to the end, he was always an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Gerhard is survived by two of his three brothers, Werner (Roxanne) of Newton Falls and Gunther of Youngstown, and by his dear sister Doris (Brian) Pitzer of Edinboro, Pennsylvania. His brother Arthur passed away just last year. Five nieces, six nephews, and their families will surely miss their unique Uncle Gary. A memorial service honoring Gerhard's life will be held at the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman, at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 28. The family encourages attendees to share their memories of Gary in an informal setting. This service will be preceded by a visiting hour at noon, and followed by a brief committal service at the gravesite in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market St. at 2:00 PM.
