Georgios Ioannis Kalouris, 69 Campbell…Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. Steve Denas officiating, for Georgios Ioannis Kalouris, 69, who passed away peacefully in the presence of his beloved family and in the comfort of his home on Friday, Sept. 12, 2014. Georgios was born February 25, 1945, in Kalymnos, Greece. As his family arose from the hardships of WWII conditions, Georgios worked by his father's side as a fisherman on his fishing boat. After servicng in the Greek Air Force in order to complete his obligation as a male Greek citizen, Georgios worked as a member of the cargo crew on the Hellenic Merchant Marine ships. In 1972, he married his beloved wife, Maria, and they decided to move to America, where he joined his parents and younger brothers in Gary, Indiana. After a short tenure at the United States Steel Corporation in Indiana, George moved his family to Tarpon Springs, Fla. and later to Toledo, Ohio, where he worked as a bridge painter for local bridge painting companies. In 1981, George and Maria moved their family to Campbell to join his siblings and build a foundation for his family's permanent home. He continued to work in the bridge painting industry until he obtained a permanent position at General Motors. Upon his retirement from General Motors, Georgios focused on always being there for his wife, children and grandchildren. Georgios will be remembered by many in the Greek community for his love of family and friends. He was blessed with the gift of being able to bring laughter and joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Even during his last hours with his family and friends, he made everyone smile and even laugh as he reminisced about the good old days. He had a special place in his heart for St. George, the patron saint of the Kalouris family. He unceasingly prayed to St. George and loved to visit the family monastery, which was built in his honor during his visits to Kalymnos, Greece. Georgios also found happiness in spending time with his friends on fishing trips and at the local coffee house, where he played cards and talked about events related to their homeland of Greece. His pride and joy was his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Irini Ginnis Kalouris; his devoted wife, Maria Alexandrakis Kalouris; a loving daughter, Evangelia (Louis) Straser; as well as his loving sons, John G. (Dana) Kalouris and Manoli G. Kalouris; and his grandchildren, Georgios Straser and Cara, Giorgio, Nina, and Milana Kalouris. He is also survived by his siblings, Katerina (Michael) Koullias, Nikolaos (Irene) Kalouris, Michael (Susan) Kalouris, and sister-in-law Petroula Kalouris. In addition, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and family members who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Ioannis Kalouris and his older brother, Emmanuel I. Kalouris. The Kalouris family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Monday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Campbell and again on Tuesday morning from 9-10:00 a.m. at the church.
