Campbell: Funeral services will be held 10:30am Monday at the Wasko Funeral Home and 11am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for George P. Slanina, 78 who passed away Tuesday morning. George was born March 26, 1933 in Campbell, the son of John and Kathryn Sedlacko Slanina and was a life long area resident. He was a 1951 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and went on to serve his country in U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church all of his life. He loved the church and it?¢s people with all his heart. George was extremely active there from his youth until his death. He was a charter member of it?¢s Legion of Mary, he belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society, Men?¢s Club and the Infant Guild, he was also vice-president of the Sokol Branch 26 in Campbell for 50 years. He worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., Wean United and LTV Steel. George served mass from his youth until his death. On Saturday?¢s he went to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a 1 hour adoration of the Eucharist for many years. He had a great kindness, generosity and a special sense of humor. George leaves to cherish his memory his sister Mary Ann Slanina with whom he made his home. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Kathryn and his brother Emery. The Slanina family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3-6pm.
