George Hasapes, 84
Campbell…Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, at the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. Steve Denas officiating, for George Hasapes, 84, who passed away Saturday in his home.
George was born Nov. 3, 1930 in Lowellville, the son of Nick and Katheryn Krutysza Hasapes.
He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School, January Class of 1949. He received a BS in Education from the Ohio State University, his Masters in Education from West Minister College and later received a Business Degree from Youngstown State University.
He served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1950.
He was a member of the church, the American Legion Post 560, where he was Past Commander, and St. Elizabeth Slovak Club.
He was selected for North-South All-Star Game in 1948; lettered 3 years as a tackle in high school from 1946-48; and was All County Honorable Mention in 1948.
George was a teacher and an artist and had his art work displayed at the Jewish Community Center and the Butler Institute of Art, where he received numerous awards.
He retired from the Youngstown City School District as a teacher after 29 years of service.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Barbara (Pete Psaras) Hasapes of Campbell, with whom he made his home, Michael N. Hasapes of Poland and Christine Hasapes Sioukiouroglou of Canfield; three grandchildren, Simon Sioukiouroglou, Christos Sioukiouroglou and Aundie Hasapes; and three sisters, Helen Stipitich, Marie Spencer, and Chrysanthemum (Chrys) Hasapes, all of Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Theodore (Ted) Hasapes; and a sister, Mildred (Millie) Harris.
The Hasapes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Thursday evening from 5-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. at the Church.
