Poland: A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Sat. Jan. 15th at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown for Frank Bator, who died on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 at the Hospice House in Poland with his family at his side.
Frank the son of Stephen and Christina Halko Bator, was born Dec. 19, 1932 in Youngstown. During his youth, Frank lived on the Westside of Youngstown, attended Holy Name Parish and Elementary School. He was a 1951 graduate of Chaney High School.
Frank entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and actively served during the Korean War through 1955. Frank was proud to be a Korean War Veteran.
On Feb. 11, 1956 Frank married the love of his life, Shirley Jay and together they began their family life in Poland. Frank continued his education at Youngstown State University while working at Packard Electric as a tool and die maker, where he retired in 1997.
Frank was also proud of his Slovak Heritage and was very active within the Slovak Community throughout the Youngstown area. His involvements included Past President of the American Slovak Cultural Association, a member of the Slovak Catholic Federation, a member of the Ohio Genealogy club, a member of the Ohio Cultural Association and a member of the Jenska Jednota. Frank loved traveling to visit Slovakia and encountering the beauty of his heritage.
Frank loved his parish family of St. Paul the Apostle in New Middletown, where he served as a volunteer Silas Marner, Relay for Life Team member, a Pirohy worker and a member of the Knights of Columbus in New Middletown.
Frank loved people and being active in many social activities especially his involvement with the Senior Center Line Dancing and Tai Chi group. Frank was an avid Poland Bulldogs fan and attended many of the athletic activities in Poland.
Frank enjoyed traveling with his wife Shirley and their children to National Parks throughout all of the United States.
Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley; his daughter Rebecca (Steve) and his sons Frank and Eric. Also cherishing the memory of their ââ?¬Å?Poppy쳌 are his grandchildren, Renee, Rosalie (Nick), Brandi, Corporal Justin, Amber, Britny, Michael and Allison.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his brother Stephen and five sisters, twins Mary and Helen, Ann and twins Sophie and Margaret.
The Bator family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley of Poland and all the extended family and friends who showered Frank with loving care during his illness.
Friends may call from 4-7pm on Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Church located in New Middletown, followed by a Cursillo Bible Vigil at 7pm. There will be calling hours one hour preceding the celebration of mass on Saturday.

The Bator family has entrusted the care of Frank to the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell.
