Eli Danilov, 89 CAMPBELL - Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Popovich serving as the Main Celebrant, for Eli Danilov, 89, who passed away Tuesday afternoon. Eli was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Youngstown, the son of Tom and Dorothy Zarich Danilov. He was a 1944 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and following his service in the U.S. Navy, Eli obtained a BS Degree in Education from Youngstown College in 1950. Eli started his teaching career in the New Castle school district and then went on to teach at Campbell Middle School and Campbell Memorial High School, where he retired in the mid 80s. He loved sports and was a point guard for the Youngstown College basketball team. Eli later went on to play in the Serbian Pro Basketball League, where he won a national championship under the coaching of Press Marovich. Eli enjoyed kids and spent a lot of time coaching basketball and supporting students in New Castle and Campbell. Following his retirement, he continued coaching with his son, Brian at Campbell, Ursuline and Mooney. He was also an accomplished fisherman. Above all, Eli valued his family and loved spending time at his granddaughter, Brittany's sporting events, and fishing with his grandson, Tim, on their special fishing trips to Canada. His wife, the former Mary Ann Thomas Danilov, whom he married Oct. 6, 1951, passed away Feb. 9, 2010. Eli leaves to cherish his memory, his two sons, Tim and daughter-in-law, Sally of Canfield and Brian of Campbell; two grandchildren, Timothy and Brittany of Canfield; his sister-in-law, Dolly Torba of Canfield; many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Rebound. He was preceded in death by his parents; and nine brothers and sisters. The Danilov family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
