Obituary

Edward M. Garchar Sr., 89 BOARDMAN - Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and at 10 a.m. at the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church for Edward M. Garchar Sr., 89, who passed away Sunday evening at Hospice House. Ed was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Campbell, the son of Andrew and Helen Bivalec Garchar. He was a 1943 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army's Naval Division, where he served as a medic on a ship in World War II. Ed was the Fire Chief for the City of Campbell Fire Department, and after retirement worked construction for the government in barracks throughout the country. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Donna Rose Davis, whom he married Oct. 22, 1947; his children, Mary Alice (Frank) O'Malley-Castronovo of Boardman, Martin Garchar of Alameda, Calif., Edward (Debra) Garchar Jr. of Liberty and Thomas (Marcie Jacobs) Garchar of Triadelphia, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Randy Garchar, Katie, Garchar, Jay O'Malley, Sean O'Malley, Bridget (James) Spangler, Mirissa Garchar, Garrett Jacobs and Catlin Jacobs; one great-grandson, James Spangler IV; his caregiver, Agota; and his loyal dog and companion, LuLu. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Andrew and Larry Garchar; and one sister, Eleanor Bakosh. The Garchar family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.
