Obituary

Dominic F. Fabrizio, 98 CAMPBELL - Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Angela Merici Parish, officiated by the Rev. Kevin Peters, for Dominic F. Fabrizio, 98, who passed away Saturday morning at Omni West Nursing Home. Dominic was born March 8, 1917, in North Bergen, N.J., the son of Frederick L and Angeline Iodine Fabrizio. He graduated from East High School in 1937, and then attended Electrician, Welding and Millwright School. He was the holder of both an electrician and millwright journeyman cards. Dominic served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a combat engineer. He worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Coal Strip, having retired in 1978, with over 25 years of service. Dominic was a former parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Parish and was recently a member of St. Angela Merici Parish. He enjoyed dancing at the Steel Valley Square Dancing Club and was a member of the Westside Eagles Club. Dominic, "dad," "Grandpa," "Uncle Dom" or "Rooster," whatever you knew him as, you knew him as a man with a zeal for life. He approached everything with a twinkle in his eye and a "swim or drown" attitude. He loved winning at gin (at all costs), distance biking into his late 90s, diving into pools at the age of 96, and most of all spending time with his family. As a World War II veteran, millwright, a social worker, gardener, and family man, his accolades were many, but the accomplishment he was most proud of was his 76 years of marriage to Mary and the family they raised together. They spent many wonderful years together in Florida, where he was a volleyball and bocce champion. Together, they were avid ballroom and square dancers until their late 90s. Today, they dance again in Heaven. His wife, the former Mary L. Nerone, whom he married Aug. 6, 1938, passed away Sept. 4, 2014. He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Angeline (Peter) Koulianos and Dominic R. (Kathy) Fabrizio, both of Campbell; his 11 grandchildren, Lisa, Michael, Dominic A., John, Jennifer, Mary, Tony, Dominic P., Dominic R., Lauren and Michael C.; 21 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Samuel Fuline of Texas. Besides his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Frederick L. Fabrizio; brothers Joe, Nick and John Fuline; and his sisters, Kate Mascarella, Mary Mascarella and Rose Mercuri. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Windsor Assisted Living and Omni Manor West for the excellent care they provided Dominic and his wife, Mary, while they resided there. The Fabrizio family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.
