Youngstown…Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home with Pastor Jose Cruz officiating, for Carmen Mercado, 82, who passed away Tuesday evening. Carmen was born March 20, 1931, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Emerejildo and Sara Rodriguez Rodriguez. Carmen was a member of First Spanish Baptist Church of Youngstown. She loved tending to her flower garden and crocheting. Carmen leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 63 years, Porfirio P. Mercado, whom she married in March, 1949; her sons, Ramon (Vicky) of Youngstown, Antonio (Nilsa) of Michigan, Robert of Michigan and Alfredo (Colleen) of Youngstown; her daughters, Evelyn (Estefano) Laboy and Mary Cortez, both of Youngstown; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Margaret Santiago of Youngstown. Carmen was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, Victor. The Mercado family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends Friday from 5-8:00 p.m.
