Obituary

Youngstown: Funeral services will be held 10am Friday at the Wasko Funeral Home and 11am in St. Michael Byzantine Church in Campbell for Carmen J. McGarry, 58 who passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday morning. His passing is a great loss to many, as there wasn?t a more loved man by all who knew him. He was born July 16, 1953 the son of Thomas ?Red? and Frances Gagliano McGarry and was raised on Donation Street on Youngstown?s East Side, he attended East High School. He moved to Liberty Township when his parents built a new home and Carmen then attended and graduated from Liberty High School in 1971. He attended Y.S.U., majoring in Art. He began his tire career in 1973 and served the valley for over 35 years as ?Car Man the Tire Man?. He sold True Tread Tire in Oct. of 2010. He most recently was employed at KeMas on Lake Park Rd. He was a member of the church; it?s Men?s Civics Club; St. Michaels Golf League and the GCU. Carmen loved to vacation with his family, going to Hilton Head and Disney World yearly. He loved visiting Nashville where his daughter Sarah lives and spent many weekends at Lake Berlin. He also enjoyed golf and going to Bob Evans in Boardman for breakfast. He had a band ?The Renaissance?, later becoming ?The Todd? who produced a record ?Mystify Me? and ?Be My Lover Tonight? in the early 70s. When he smiled, everyone smiled with him. Carmen will be greatly missed and his memory forever cherished by the love of his life, the former Elizabeth ?Liz? Straub, whom he married Oct. 25, 1975; two daughters, Sarah McGarry of Nashville, TN and Shannon and son-in-law Mark Monstrola of Poland; a brother James and Paula McGarry of Berlin Center; brothers and sisters in law Kathleen and Ed Hall of New Waterford, Trudy and Gary Carlisle of Canfield, Margie and Michael Budd of Boardman, Edward and Michele Straub of Canfield and John and Ruth Straub of Poland and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom loved him dearly. And friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in law Peggy and Connie Straub, Sr.; his grandparents and brother and sister in law Connie and Dee Straub. The McGarry family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4-8pm.
