Biography

Ann J. "Rusty" Balas, 94 Boardman…Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church in Campbell, for Ann J. "Rusty" Balas, 94, who passed away Saturday afternoon at The Commons at Greenbrier Assisted Living in Boardman. Ann was born November 6, 1920, in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Juhaszova (Yuhaz) Sabo. She came to the United States at the age of 7 and became a US citizen; Ann grew up in Campbell and resided in Struthers for many years. She worked at Woodside Receiving Hospital. She was a lifetime member of St. Elizabeth in Campbell until its' closing and then joined Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church. Ann also belonged to the Golden Echo's at St. Matthias Church. She enjoyed listening to polka bands at the Commons at Greenbrier Assisted Living during the summer months. Her husband, Edward Balas, whom she happily married on Aug. 6, 1943 passed away May 1, 1999. Ann leaves to cherish her memories, her nieces Linda Cannahar, Debra Zupko and Janie Zilke; nephews, John Sabo and Thomas Sabo; sisters-in-law, Joan Balas, who served as her care taker, and Julie Fabian; and several more nieces and nephews of the Balas family. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ed; and a brother, John Sabo. Ann's family would like to thank Dr. Koval, the staff at Commons at Greenbrier, her sitters Ella, Lana and Cara, and Cross Roads Hospice for their excellent care. The Balas family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Friday from 5-7p.m. at the funeral home.
