CAMPBELL - Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Swierz officiating, for Angelo R. Valentino, 85, who passed away Sunday morning at the Hospice House, with his family by his side.
Angelo was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Lowellville, the son of Ralph and Lena Boano Valentino.
He was a 1947 graduate of Lowellville High School. Following high school, he worked for the railroad until 1952, when he joined the U.S. Army to serve our country. In 1953, he was honorably discharged and went on to work as a brakeman for Sharon Steel Corporation. He retired in 1985, after 38 years of service. After his retirement, he worked as a limo driver for American Limo and was a licensed realtor for Valentino Realty.
He was the former president of the Optimist Club, most recently the sergeant of arms for the Campbell Gridiron Club and the former secretary of the Campbell Merchants Bowling League.
He cherished his morning coffee meetings with his McDonald's retirees group and he will miss them dearly.
Angelo religiously followed football and Campbell Memorial High School sports teams. He was also an avid follower of Youngstown State University's sports teams, especially its football and basketball teams.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, the former Mildred "Millie" Poulos, whom he married Dec. 15, 1951; his daughter, Pamela Thomas, at home; his sons, Bill (Sharon) Valentino and Joe Valentino, both of Campbell and John (Kris) Valentino of Austintown; his sister, Virginia Rosensteel of Austintown; 11 grandchildren, Courtney Valentino, Dr. Amber (Garth) Valentino-Girman, Joey Valentino, Tyler Valentino, Stephanie Valentino, Amanda Valentino, Angela (Anthony) Pastella, Mike Valentino, Megan (Lance) Mathis, Brian Thomas and Patrick Thomas; four great-grandsons, Kevin, Anthony, Vas and Alex; and one great-granddaughter, Myhia.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rick Valentino; and three sisters, Mary Perrott, Angie Balogh and Rose Tomko.
The Valentino family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
